Horror for the Platts as beloved member is deliberately hit by car in Coronation Street
Stealing money from a Gaskell was never going to end well where David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is concerned in Coronation Street.
The character got word Sarah’s (Tina O’Brien) ex Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) – Harvey Gaskell’s (Will Mellor) brother – had hidden some money she could use to pay for Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical fees.
The money belonged to Harvey, but was stolen by David in an attempt to prevent someone else from buying the Platt home aka, Number 8.
In upcoming episodes, David learns of just how dangerous Harvey can be.
While at the police station, he’s surprised to bump into Andy, a fellow former prisoner who insists they swap numbers.
Meanwhile, Lily (Brooke Malonie) hands Shona (Julia Goulding) a piece of paper. She explains a man from the precinct gave it to her to pass onto David.
Shona takes a look at the note and discovers it’s from Harvey, demanding an extra £10k in interest. Spooked to realise Harvey’s cronies knew who Lily was, David and Shona make a pact to keep tabs on the kids at all times.
In the week, the family face further drama when Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) races inside Number 8 with David the dog wrapped up in a blanket. He tells David and Shona that he found him at the side of the road and it would seem he’s been hit by a car.
Secretly wondering if Harvey is responsible, David resorts to drastic measures and returns home with a hammer and a baseball bat. He tells Shona that until they can find the money, they need to protect themselves.
These developments come ahead of the huge fire at the Platt household.
Metro previously revealed how a major fire was being filmed, with pictures showing the Platt house ablaze.
And now producer Kate Brooks has shared some more details about the build-up and the devastating consequences.
‘It all goes to pot!’ she declared. ‘David has stolen a big old bag of cash from Harvey, which was the wrong move. He’s done it for the house and the family, but this escalates massively.
‘The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay. He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has.
‘It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David. So, in trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear.’
