Paul Danan’s co-stars and Boyzone’s Shane Lynch gather for funeral after tragic death

Paul Danan’s friends and former co-stars gathered to pay their respects to the actor at his funeral after his tragic death last week.

The Hollyoaks star, who played Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap, has sadly died at the age of just 46. Police confirmed the actor was found dead at a property in Bristol last Wednesday (January 15).

His management confirmed his death on Thursday (January 16). A statement read: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old. Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.”

“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him,” they added. “During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.”

Several famous faces joined Paul’s family and friends at his funeral on Tuesday (January 21) at Waltham Abbey in Essex. just six days after his untimely death. Boyzone star Shane Lynch and Paul’s former Hollyoaks co-stars Terri Dwyer and James Redmond were among those grieving the reality star.

Avon and Somerset Police released a statement following Paul’s death, stating: “Officers attended a property in Brislington, Bristol, at around 5.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 15 January) where sadly a man in his 40s was declared deceased by paramedics.”

“His family have been notified and our thoughts are with them. They have asked for people to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “His death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are preparing a file for the coroner.”

Paul was open about his struggled with substance addiction and went to rehab at least 17 times in a bid to conquer his drug problems. He tried cocaine for the first time at the age of 17 and experimented with ecstasy at just 14 years of age.

The actor also revealed he nearly died from a heroin overdose. In 2019, he appeared in an episode of The Jeremy Kyle Show, where he bravely discussed his struggles with drug addiction after getting clean.

In June last year, Paul said he nearly died after his “obsessive” vape addiction caused respiratory failure. At the time, he told The Sun: “I was dead — it’s a miracle I’m here.

“I’m upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed. My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital.

“I was on a machine in ICU and ended up with pneumonia. My family were warned I might not make it through the night. I’m so lucky. The doctor was so, so harsh with me. She told me, ‘Paul, you don’t know how serious this was and you are going to be in here for a while now, on this oxygen’.”
