EastEnders’ Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) returns to Walford following her acquittal for murder in EastEnders next week, but her life continues to unravel in a big way despite her newfound freedom.

On Thursday, fans of the BBC soap saw a jury find Sonia not guilty of Debbie Colwell’s murder after her fiancé Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) produced new evidence that she was not to blame.

This came in the form of a ‘confession’ video from Sonia’s sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), who Reiss had been holding hostage since November when she discovered that he had in fact killed his comatose wife.

In a bid to get her sister off a murder charge and to secure her own freedom from Reiss’ storage unit, a desperate Bianca recorded herself confessing to killing Debbie.

In forthcoming scenes, Sonia can’t get her head around the video and refuses to believe Bianca is guilty, but Reiss is determined to close down her questions.

Things get worse when Sonia goes out and is met by the Walford gossips, provoking her to fiercely defend her sister.

Back home, Reiss is rattled as Sonia tries to speak to the CPS to get a copy of the ‘confession’ and insists she drops it for the baby’s sake.

However, a conversation with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) gives Sonia reason to believe Reiss isn’t being honest with her.

Sonia then confronts Reiss with Jack’s intel, but he manipulates her with a clever explanation.

Reiss makes Sonia feel so bad for questioning his motives that when Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) later comes round to cast doubt on his honesty, Sonia defends her fiancé.

But will Sonia give up on her sister so easily?

EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 27 January at 7,30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
