EastEnders fans have had a surprising response to a recent plot twist about Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) and Gina Knight (Francesca Henry).

This week, Gina’s family have wondered if she was the person who attacked Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) on Christmas Day.

After Anna (Molly Rainford) spotted her sister having secret chats with Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), Gina was revealed as the person who had thrown a brick through a window to intimidate her mum.

While her family initially believed this meant she was also her mum’s attacker, Gina revealed to dad George Knight (Colin Salmon) that she’d discovered he’d lied about his own whereabouts on Christmas night.

He’d claimed to have been injured while participating in an illegal boxing match after Gina and Anna had found a bloodied shirt of his.

However, Gina confessed she later called the promoter, who said the venue had closed down.

Upon realising that George could be back in the frame for Cindy’s attack, she took matters into her own hands. By throwing the brick, she hoped to protect him by pointing the finger in the direction of the ominous Ford family, who previously forced Cindy into witness protection.

Gina apologised to Cindy, but then revealed she couldn’t be the culprit, because she was with Freddie when it happened.

And it true EastEnders fashion, the betrayal was revealed just as Freddie and Anna walked in on the conversation.

Shortly after these scenes, EastEnders fans took to social media platform X to express their shock at the twist.

‘Good Lord, Gina and Freddy now???’, one user said.

Many other audience members couldn’t help point out that ‘justice’ had been served for Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell), who left Walford shortly after learning Anna and Freddie had slept together.

‘JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED FOR BOBBY BEALE!’, one exclaimed.

Another wrote: ‘I’m sorry but I’m glad that Gina slept with Freddie lol. Him and Anna are insufferable and Anna DID cheat on Bobby so really it’s just Karma. #Eastenders.’

The person who actually attacked Cindy won’t be revealed until the show’s anniversary week next month.

Discussing the storyline, EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw said: ‘Our 40th anniversary storylines have been in the works for some time, but even at the very start of planning, we knew that we wanted to reveal the identity of Cindy’s attacker as part of this.

‘Many characters currently find themselves in the line of question, but over the coming weeks, the audience can look out for clues themselves to who may be the culprit.

‘Cindy’s attacker reveal is just one of many stories we have planned for the anniversary as it is set to be a week of explosive drama for the audience to remember.’
