Former Coronation Street star Peter Ash has warned fans to be vigilant of ‘fakers’ impersonating him online.

The actor, who played Paul Foreman on the ITV soap, echoed a recent post from his bosses amid the rise of scammers setting up accounts in soap stars’ names.

Posting on X, he wrote: Please be aware I do not have a Facebook account.

‘I only have this ‘X’ account and my Instagram account (peterash_85).

‘I’m aware there are fakers out there, so please don’t be fooled!’ he said.

Earlier this month, Emmerdale and Coronation Street issued a joint statement alerting fans to these scams.

They said: ‘No cast member will ever directly request money for messages, meetings or any kind of personal interaction on social media.

‘We are aware these sophisticated impersonations can include deep-fake footage (where it appears to be the actor talking but isn’t) and personal messages which seem to be realistic and in character. We urge everybody to be vigilant. Please report any concerns to the relevant platform.’

They concluded: ‘The legitimate way of meeting with real members of the cast is via official ‘meet and greet’ events run by ITV Star Tours.’

Peter left Coronation Street last year after his character was killed off in a heartbreaking motor neuron disease storyline.

Earlier this week, he reunited with his former on-screen husband Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew.

‘Reunited!,’ he wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture with Peter. ‘In that there London!’.

Fans were quick to comment, with one writing: ‘We miss you 2 boys being together,’ while another added: ‘wish we could go back to the days we saw you both on screen together every night.’
