TV legend stages unexpected Coronation Street return just weeks after exit
TV legend Maureen Lipman returned to her role as Evelyn Plummer in last night’s Coronation Street episode, just weeks after leaving the cobbles.
Evelyn decided to take a huge leap and apply for university at the beginning of this year, and was thrilled when she was offered a place on a course to read law.
Wanting to make the most out of her experience as a student, she decided to move into university accommodation, and her friends and family sent her off with well wishes several weeks ago.
However, last night’s episode saw her return to the street to visit her family – and she got quite a shock.
Arriving at the family home, she was surprised to find that daughter Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) had a suitcase packed.
Evelyn was quick to make a dig about Ken Barlow (William Roache) taking her on a free holiday again, but got even more of a shock when Cassie revealed where she was really going.
Cassie has been working as Ken’s carer for a few months now, and has been enacting a sinister plot right under his nose…
Her scheme to get her hands on his cash has seen her drug him with antihistamines in order to keep him ill enough to need to rely on her help.
In recent scenes, Ken all but sealed his own fate when he asked Cassie to move in – and she was quick to accept the offer.
When Cassie told Evelyn about the new development, it was clear she wasn’t impressed, pointing out that her family needed her around.
