This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Coronation Street has ruled out a major character death as their health took a turn for the better in recent scenes.

Max Turner (Paddy Bever) was left fighting for his life after being caught up in the explosion at the Platt’s house.

He had gone back into the burning building in search of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), and the pair had then found themselves trapped inside.

Though Shona managed to force her way out, Max wasn’t so lucky, and was still inside when the explosion hit.

Thankfully, firefighters were able to pull him from the wreckage of the house and send him off to hospital in the back of an ambulance.

In tonight’s episode, doctors assured Shona and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that Max had improved over night, informing them that they would soon be taking him off his ventilator.

Shona was relieved when Max later woke up, though was unsure of what to say when Max asked where David was.

Unbeknown to Max, David had been arrested for starting the fire that had left him hospitalised.

Though Max appears to be on the mend, he is soon set to depart the cobbles, with the announcement that actor Paddy Bever is leaving the show.

‘After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities.

‘I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way,’ Paddy, 22, said in a statement.
Talking to The Mirror, he added: ‘It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show.

‘This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.’

With Max’s health improving, the question remains how he will leave Weatherfield, but it will certainly be in the coming weeks, as the actor has already filmed his final scenes.
