Former Emmerdale star Ian Kelsey has heaped praise on Beth Cordingly following her big storyline on the ITV soap.

The actor, who portrayed Dave Glover in the serial drama is in a relationship with the Ruby Fox-Miligan star.

Ruby, as viewers know, bravely revealed that she had been sexually abused by father Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day) when she was a teenager.

The storyline received acclaim, with Beth’s powerhouse performance in the emotional scenes commended by fans and critics alike.

When asked about Beth’s work, Ian couldn’t be any prouder.

‘She’s doing such great work, and it’s a deep, dark storyline’, he told Inside Soap.

‘She’s had to step up to the plate and her workload has been huge but she’s doing a brilliant job. I’m so proud of her.’

The actor joked that it feels like he’s ‘reliving a past life’ with Beth at Emmerdale. ‘I still have one of Dave’s leather jackets, which would fit Beth well,’ he said.

Ian starred as Dave between 1994 and 1996. The character married Kathy Bates (Malandra Burrows) and had an affair up with Kim Tate (Claire King).

Ian and Beth, meanwhile, have been together for three years.

Last year, Beth shared a sweet snapshot of them together, writing: ‘I love you on tour. I love you at home. I love you away. I love you here. You are the stuff dreams are made of. Thank god I found you. #stillcantbelieveyourereal,’ she wrote.

‘It’s taken me 47 years to get here. And some amazing people in my life with everyday a school day. Stay open. Own your mistakes. WE ALL MAKE THEM. I MAKE HUNDREDS EVERY DAY. Proper CRINGE ONES. So. LEARN. Life IS a marathon not a sprint. Seatbelt on. There will be time.’

‘Thought for the day: The good ones do exist. Keep your eyes open. And when you find them – it’s terrifying, I KNOW. But be brave and reach out your hand and don’t let go. #trustyouareenough #youareworthy #loveyourself please.’
