Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) needs to remember the phrase ‘take a hint’ in Emmerdale soon as multiple situations occur that are essentially the universe telling him it’s far too early to propose to Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
Liam and Chas got together properly towards the end of last year. They enjoyed a brief fling, but as Chas dealt with her breast cancer, Liam got with Ella Forster (Paula Lane), seemingly quashing any hopes of them reuniting.
Fortunately though, they eventually confronted how they felt about each other.
It’s a sweet, albeit unexpected relationship, that’s working well. Because it’s going swimmingly though, Liam sees it as a sign that he should make Chas his wife.
So, he gets to work preparing a grand proposal.
After purchasing multiple tickets for the raffle, with the winning prize being a night out in a limo, Liam heads to find Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and asks for his permission to propose.
Aaron’s gives a typical Aaron response, but Liam takes it and runs off to carry on planning.
In the pub, as the raffle gets underway, Liam fails to win – his romantic plan seemingly foiled. Not wanting to give up, Liam begs Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) to get hold of another limo so he can still carry out his surprise.
The winner of the raffle turns out to be Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), so she decides to invite her mates on a girls night out.
Liam gets his hands on a limo, but then learns Chas is heading off in Kerry’s one for the evening.
The man hasn’t got the message yet!
With one limo and one failed attempt at proposing, Liam covers by saying the boys could use it for their own night out instead.
The next day, the girls and boys head into the vehicles, with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) reluctantly becoming drivers.
Just before they leave, Liam grabs Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and explains he still wants to propose to Chas. With the atmosphere in the girls limo chaotic, and a huge row breaking out between the men, Charity and Caleb both find themselves distracted, leading to the vehicles swerving.
As a result, they are both involved in accidents – and one of them has crashed onto a frozen lake.
The group find themselves in a perilous position – but will they all survive?
Discussing the dynamic between Liam and Chas, star Jonny McPherson said: ‘I think it is similar to the dynamic between Liam and Cain. They are sweet together. Liam looks up to Cain’s brutal honesty and Cain does not see Liam as any threat whatsoever, because he’s just very much a heart on his sleeve type of man.
‘And I think it’s very similar to the relationship with Chas. I think she appreciates Liam’s softness – his open and honest softness. And Liam is absolutely endeared to Chas’ honesty – her brutal honesty, deep down she has a good heart.
‘She’s just been through the mill a bit in terms of traumatic experiences.’
