Coronation Street’s Max delivers vicious parting shot to David before devastating exit
Max Turner (Paddy Bever) is currently in prison on Coronation Street after he deliberately set the Platts’ house on fire – something which almost ended up killing him and also risked the life of Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) who was in the house at the time.
The reason he started the fire was that the family were increasingly under threat from crime lord Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).
Despite being in prison himself, Harvey has ways and means of targeting people who have wronged him and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) wronged him badly by stealing money that belonged to Harvey to buy the house.
This initial mistake by David has had dangerous repercussions. Harvey’s associates kidnapped Shona (Julia Goulding), fired an air gun through the Platts’ front window and ran over David the dog. The family were so terrified that they had to leave the house.
Max thought that if he set fire to the house the insurance money would pay Harvey back and they would be in the clear. He didn’t reckon with the fact that there might be someone in the building at the time.
Now Max is in prison and David is trying to get the money together to pay off Harvey by any means necessary, including getting involved in criminal behaviour himself. The overriding fear is that Max will be a sitting target inside the prison and won’t be safe from Harvey until Harvey has his money.
In Tuesday’s episode Shona and David went to see Max at the prison. David advised Max to be vigilant and keep his wits about him, and said they were trying to do their best to get Max moved to a prison where he’d be out of Harvey’s reach.
Max was devastated when he heard that this could mean moving to Scotland – far away from any family and friends. He wondered whether David was thinking of this as a way out of paying Harvey back, because that would never work.

He talked about the life he’d been about to have with Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and baby Frankie and how that would never happen – and that the entire situation was David’s fault.
‘I wish I’d never tried to sort your mess out, because you’re not worth it,’ Max said. ‘I should have just let Harvey get his revenge.’
‘If I could go back and change everything, I would,’ David responded.
Max’s reply was devastating. ‘Me too,’ he said. ‘Like who raised me.’ Ouch.
It was recently revealed that Paddy Bever is leaving the show after three years playing Max. ‘After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities,’ the actor stated.
‘This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.’
It remains to be seen whether Max will leave the show after being sentenced to a long stretch in prison or whether, tragically, he could become a victim of Harvey’s revenge.
But will David be able to make amends to him before it’s too late? Or is their relationship finally broken?
