Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) was feeling incredibly lonely in tonight’s Emmerdale as he discovered two members of his family wouldn’t be attending his mum’s funeral.

Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) was one of the three women who died last week during the limo crash disaster. She had sustained an injury when the vehicle crashed onto an icy lake, was pulled to safety, but did not survive.

The death has completely destroyed Leyla’s son Jacob. In tonight’s episode, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) found him in the café attempting to organise more of his mum’s funeral.

Jacob was upset and frustrated. He explained to Sarah that two people who were once very close to Leyla will not be heading back to the village to say goodbye to her.

Alicia, Leyla’s sister, told Jacob she cannot attend due to having a broken leg while David, Jacob’s dad, is refusing to come due to young Theo being poorly.

Jacob found both excuses pretty insulting, but it also fuelled his feeling of being completely on his own, after suffering some devastating losses.

How Jacob is feeling about his relationships with other people in the village was explained by actor Joe-Warren Plant, who has said his character will soon worry about losing Sarah as well.

‘There’s a tendency for people to leave Jacob in his life, he’s finally clocking onto that. It’s one of the reason why he’s pushing people away in certain situations.’

‘He’s too proud an individual’, he added, reflecting on why Jacob won’t completely open up to Sarah.

‘He opens up now and again but he bottles it all up, I think a lot of people struggle with the same thing really. He’s still coming to grips really and I don’t think he really likes asking for help, he wants to do it all in his own and thinks he’s got what it takes.

‘He needs to realise its okay to let people in and to allow others to aid him in his journey.’
