Mary’s staggering secret confirmed in Emmerdale – and it will break a heart
When Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) discovered Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) had died in the limo crash in Emmerdale, it felt like her whole world had fallen apart.
Mary and Suzy had been friends for a while, but we’ve also known their connection had the potential to be more than just good mates.
Their connection was addressed once, but it happened at the same time Suzy’s ex Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) returned. In order to prevent getting hurt, Mary knew addressing herself as Suzy’s mate would save her from rejection.
It was suggested something was happening between Mary and Suzy before the limo disaster. Mary had blown a kiss to Suzy, and made her smile with some flattering comments, but it was a flashback scene this week that confirmed our suspicions.
While alone, Suzy and Mary spoke about their feelings for each other. Suzy admitted that it feels like she’s in a relationship with the wrong person, but an overwhelmed Mary said they could never be together, because she’s old enough to be Suzy’s mum.
They shared a kiss, which was witnessed by Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) and sadly, that’s as far as things went.
Due to the fact the only person who knew Suzy and Mary’s secret is now dead, it’s left Mary in a terrible position as she hides the intensity of her grief.
In upcoming episodes, the day of Suzy’s funeral arrives. It’s being held in her hometown, and Mary – as promised – goes along to support Vanessa.

Afterwards, Mary overhears Vanessa telling Charity (Emma Atkins) about her unflinching support throughout the past few weeks. Mary listens in with tears falling down her cheeks.
It’s Gail (Rachael Gill Davis) who is the first to learn that Mary’s feelings for Suzy were more than just a case of unrequited love. The next day, to her shock, Mary is shown a text on Suzy’s phone where she admits to kissing someone else.
Vanessa tells Mary that she’s going to find out who it was, but will this lead to her confessing?
