Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) fancied himself as the next Sherlock Holmes once he realised the Miligan family were acting strangely in Emmerdale.
We know that Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), Steph (Georgia Jay) and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) are working with a handful of other residents to keep the truth about Anthony Fox’s murder hidden from everyone.
Amid the death, the trio are also dealing with two other secrets – the fact Anthony sexually abused Ruby when she was a child, and that he is Steph’s biological father as well.
Understandably, keeping all of these traumatic and dark pieces of information close to their chests isn’t easy – their poker faces won’t be on all of the time.
As a result, Jai has managed to work out that either Caleb, Ruby or Steph occasionally look concerned whenever Anthony’s mentioned. Since reaching this conclusion, he’s been determined to work out what secret they are keeping.
In last night’s episode, Jai recognised Steph was in a vulnerable state and took advantage. He said that whatever is bothering her, she would feel better if she opened up and told him.
Steph very nearly revealed the truth about Anthony to Jai but they were interrupted by Caleb, who was already aware of Jai’s sniffing around.
Once Steph left, Caleb spun a massive lie to Jai, revealing that Anthony is no longer around because he got scared out of the village. The businessman claimed the break-in at the depot happened as part of an insurance job, and Anthony threatened to call the police once he found out.
He then said that because of this, he attacked Anthony hard enough the old man fled the Dales, never to be seen again.
Caleb’s lie was seemingly enough to satisfy Jai, so he returned home to update Steph and keep her in the loop.
When he got to Mill Cottage, Caleb saw Steph putting new eyeshadow on. Earlier on in the episode, Ruby made a passing comment about Steph ordering more new makeup.
To Ruby and Caleb, watching Steph experiment with different styles and looks isn’t that much of a big deal, but they remain unaware as to why she’s started doing it.
In upcoming episodes, things will get worse for Steph as she starts researching plastic surgery, believing changing her appearance will free her of the reminder her granddad is also her father.
