Coronation Street legend ‘started crying’ over departing co-star who is leaving after 14 years

Coronation Street star Colson Smith has filmed his final scenes on the ITV soap, and his exit has left a show legend in tears.
The Craig Tinker star announced his departure in January on social media, revealing that he’d learnt the character was being written out last autumn.
He continued on Instagram: ‘I’ve loved every single second of my 14-year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.
‘I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is just the end of the beginning.
‘I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. Long live the cobbles!’

In a recent episode of the On The Sofa podcast, which Colson co-hosts with Corrie co-stars Ben Price and Jack P Shepherd, he revealed that show legend Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe, was in tears during his final weeks of filming.
‘Sally Dynevor started crying in make-up the other day and I said, “Woah, woah, woah, there is still a week for me to mess it all up yet. Don’t tell me I’m all Mr Lovely because you wait!”‘
After wrapping filming on his final scenes, Colson took to Instagram to pay tribute to the show, posting a picture of himself sitting on top of the Rovers Return sign.

It has been revealed that Colson’s final scenes are set to be dramatic, with Craig dying in a blaze of glory.
‘Craig has grown up on the street and he’s become part of it so it was a tough decision to make but one that will be worth it,’ a source told The Sun.
‘PC Tinker will meet his maker in heroic circumstances this summer and there won’t be a dry eye in the house when it goes out.
‘Colson is taking it well and there’s a real feeling that this chapter is closing for him and there are bigger and brighter things ahead.
