Emmerdale fans have been left horrified after brutal scenes saw Piper the dog tragically pass away after being killed by evil Tom King (James Chase).

Piper was Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) beloved pet dog, who Tom has consistently used against her as part of his abuse.

There was uproar from fans when Tom poisoned poor Piper several weeks ago, with Ofcom receiving over 850 complaints, and Belle was left devastated when controlling Tom locked the dog outside during their trip to Wales.

However, his most recent actions were even more brutal.

While driving through the Dales during Friday’s episode, Tom found Piper in the middle of the road, after she escaped from the Dingle’s.

After some deliberation, Tom ran Piper over, before rushing her back to the village, where he claimed he’d found her at the side of a road.

In last night’s instalment of the ITV soap, it became clear that Tom had kept up the appearance of doting dog-dad all night, as he attempted to treat Piper’s injuries alongside fellow vet Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

However, it didn’t take long for his true motives to become clear.

After breaking the devastating news to Belle that Piper hadn’t made it, he offered to go home with her, insisting that she shouldn’t be alone while she was this upset.

Thankfully, Belle saw straight through him, and realised that he had been the man behind Piper’s supposed hit and run.

Tom’s actions were beyond cruel, and fans of the show took to social media to express their horror.
