Wedding drama confirmed for major Coronation Street couple as a proposal is made – but there’s tragedy
There’s a romantic marriage proposal in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, as Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) gets down on one knee to ask long-time partner Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) to marry him.
But this happy moment comes soon after Debbie has received some shocking news that she’s struggling to come to terms with. How will she react to Ronnie’s proposal in the light of what she’s recently been told?
For a while now Debbie has been experiencing troubling symptoms. Small things such as forgetting appointments, losing her purse, having mood swings and getting angry at nephew Jack (Kyran Bowes) have mounted up and she’s particularly concerned after suffering a few falls.
She makes an appointment with a private doctor and imagines that she’ll probably be told it’s the menopause.

What the doctor actually tells her is devastating. He says the falls could have been caused by a mini-stroke, and he thinks she should have more tests for vascular dementia.
Sue Devaney explained that dementia is the last thing Debbie expects to hear. ’I spoke to a support worker from Dementia UK, and she said many women think it’s just menopause and don’t get tested, even though the symptoms can be similar, like brain fog, but on a much bigger scale with dementia.
‘At one point, Debbie wonders if it’s cancer, a brain tumour, or epilepsy causing her to fall over.’

This is just the beginning of a major storyline for Coronation Street that will follow Debbie’s journey with young-onset dementia over a realistic and long period of time.
A source from the show told Metro, ‘There will not be a dry eye in the house. There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years.’
At Debbie’s initial appointment the doctor recommends that she should tell Ronnie about what they’ve discussed as she’ll need his support.
How will she respond?
