EastEnders star Laura Doddington has teased what’s ahead for murderous Nicola Mitchell.

As viewers of the BBC soap know, Nic is desperately trying to conceal the murder of Shireen Bashar, the girlfriend of her eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway).

The extended Mitchell clan were forced to flee Dartford due to rumours circulating about their involvement in her ‘disappearance.’

To make matters worse, husband Teddy (Roland Manookian) has signed on the dotted line to lead a redevelopment project on the land that Shireen has been buried on.

Nicola desperately implored her associate Benji (Carl Prekopp) to move the body, and when he refused, told her that he’d planted her jewellery at the scene of the crime.

When Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) turned down the job, she had to come clean to Teddy.

‘Cornered is the best way to describe Nicola right now!’ Laura told us.

‘She’s like an animal caught in a corner and lashing out to try to protect herself. But the inevitable landslide is happening because Nicola’s lies are unravelling.’

In upcoming scenes, Teddy is adamant that Harry is told the full truth, but Nic is concerned that it would send her son wild.

Laura explained: ‘Nicola’s horrified because she knows that if Harry finds out that she was involved in Shireen’s death, he’ll go off the rails.

‘It’s only now that they are here in Walford that he’s finally back on track and Nicola wants to protect him because she knows how upset he is about Shireen.’

Building work is paused while the couple navigate how best to move forward – and it may involve selling up Harry’s Barn to pay Benji off.

However, Nicola is shocked when Teddy takes matters into his own hands, and his subsequent actions having unexpected consequences for them both.

‘She’s shocked when he goes rogue!’ Laura continued.

‘Nicola thought this was her show and she was the puppet master, so she wasn’t expecting Teddy to take control like this. She thinks she can call all the shots and have his support.

‘The trouble is that now they are playing with fire and may well just get burned! It’s exciting to see them in such jeopardy.’

As the week goes on, an intruder confronts Nicola when she’s alone in the bar.

Who is it, and will she be ok?

Despite the on-screen drama, Laura has said she ‘couldn’t be further’ apart from the character, and is ‘having a ball’ at EastEnders.

‘Nicola is so complex and challenging, and I love being challenged in my work’ she said.

‘There is so much going on with Nicola and I love picking apart the psychology of a character like that.’
