Coronation Street favourite gutted as she’s told to step away from job
Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) was left in tears in Monday’s Coronation Street as boss Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) told her she needed to leave the solicitor firm.
Ever since the truth about Joel Deering (Calum Lill) was revealed, Dee-Dee has been determined to find a shred of evidence to put him behind bars.
She has also taken it upon herself to look out for Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), the mother of Joel’s baby boy.
As tonight’s episode opened, Dee-Dee found herself on the receiving end of Lauren’s anger. Due to the fact Emily has now stopped Joel from seeing their daughter Maeve, he’s decided he’s going to do everything he can to see Frankie, his and Lauren’s son.
This development saw Lauren lash out at Dee-Dee. She feared losing her baby to Joel and told Dee-Dee it was her fault for ‘interfering’.
Back in Weatherfield, at the solicitor office, Dee-Dee was paid a visit by Joel. He tried to blackmail Dee-Dee by saying he’d reveal her history with insider trading if she didn’t back off.
Last year, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) dabbled in some insider trading for their new business. Dee-Dee found out about this and so did Joel but as he explained tonight, he chose to keep it a secret because of the love he had for her.
This was never going to be an empty threat. Later that day, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) found Ed and Dee-Dee and said he needed to speak to them about a report. Thankfully, because Kit didn’t have that much information, he couldn’t really do much with Joel’s allegation.
After Kit told Dee-Dee and Ed that he’d return if he had more proof, Dee-Dee felt troubled – and then her day got even worse.
Adam told his colleague that because of the situation regarding Joel and the insider trading, it would be better for the business if she stepped away for a little while.
This broke Dee-Dee’s heart but that evening, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) paid her a visit with some information that distracted her.
Despite Joel’s case being officially closed, Swain told Dee-Dee that she’s got a mate in IT willing to check Joel’s phone an old colleague gave them.
It’s progress – but is it enough?
