EastEnders has cleaned up at yet another awards ceremony following a hugely successful year.

From a jaw-dropping 40th anniversary spectacular stunt to some incredible, unexpected returns (Anita Dobson, we’re looking at you), the BBC soap has really been on top form of recent.

It’s no surprise that viewers are voting in their droves to celebrate such a stellar time for the Hertfordshire-based cast and crew.

Tonight, professionals from across the media landscape gathered for this year’s TRIC (Television and Radio Industries Club) awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in London.

Gongs are handed out to individuals from both TV and radio.

Phil Mitchell legend Steve McFadden was handed the Soap Actor trophy, up against fierce competition from Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd, Emmerdale favourite Beth Cordingly and Casualty’s Barney Walsh.

In the last 12 months we’ve seen Phil’s mental health spiral, with special instalments diving further into his inner-turmoil.

We’ve also followed his journey as a carer to best mate Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who is living with young-onset dementia. The story has reached a huge turning-point this week as his memory rapidly worsened.

Deep breath.

Barney Walsh needn’t be too sad about losing out though, as his Corrie alumni dad Bradley won the TV Personality prize, beating money saving expert Martin Lewis, Geordie duo Ant & Dec and This Morning’s Alison Hammond.

But what about TRIC’s Soap Opera award?
Well, between Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Casualty and EastEnders, it was of course the latter that picked it up.

This came just weeks after they took home pretty much every single medal at the British Soap Awards.

A whopping eight trophies were collected on the night – including the highly coveted Best Soap. They also won Best Single Episode, Scene of the Year, Villian of the Year, Best Dramatic Performance, Best Leading Performer, Best On-Screen Partnership and Best Comedy Performance.
