The nights are drawing in, Strictly Come Dancing is back on TV and mince pies are already on sale in the supermarkets, which can only mean the countdown to Christmas is officially on.

But for the residents of Weatherfield, Christmas has come early, with the cast and crew of Coronation Street already filming festive scenes.

Leaked pictures from the ITV soap’s set in Salford have revealed the famous street is already adorned with lights and decorations.

One of the guides of the official set tour called Shaun shared the images on X, which show coloured festoon lights lining the cobbles and snowflake decorations hanging from lampposts.

A Christmas tree can also be seen hanging above the door of the corner shop.

Another snap shows tinsel adorning a sign at Weatherfield police station.

It’s set to be an explosive few weeks in the lead-up to Christmas for Corrie fans, with two major exits drawing near.

Evil Joel Deering (Calum Lill) is finally set to get his comeuppance for his crimes, after DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was finally able to get enough evidence to charge the sexual predator.

However, will Joel leave in the back of a prison van, or will he meet a darker demise?

There’s set to be a much happier ending for Gail Platt, however, as actress Helen Worth leaves the soap after 50 years on screen before the year is out.

While exact details about her exit are yet to be confirmed, we already know that she has found romance with Jesse Chadwick (John Thompson).

John signed up to reprise his role as the children’s entertainer as a love interest for Gail after a plot that was set to see her rekindle her relationship with ex-husband Martin Platt (Sean Wilson) was scrapped.

Scenes had to be reshot after Sean suddenly left the soap early into filming his comeback scenes due to ‘personal reasons’.

Earlier this month, eagle-eyed Corrie fans spotted a for sale sign outside of No. 8 in a picture Dee-Dee Bailey actress Channique Sterling-Brown shared on Instagram.

Will Gail sell up and ride off into the sunset with Jesse?

Coronation Street is not the only soap gearing up for its blockbuster Christmas storylines, however, as last week EastEnders fans also got a first glimpse of Walford decked up for the festive season.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
