Coronation Street’s Bernie confirms unpredictable final resting place for Paul – and it’s out of this world
It’s another sad one for the Weatherfield locals next week, as the day of Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) funeral arrives in Coronation Street.
In the lead up to the beloved character’s final farewell, his mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegroves) and his husband Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) have fiercely clashed about the type of funeral they want for Paul.
And Bernie looks set to come to blows with her son-in-law once again next week, as she comes up with a truly out-of-this-world plan for Paul’s ashes, following his death from motor neurone disease earlier this month.
The week begins with the pair still at loggerheads, this time over the choice of flowers for the service.
An emotional Bernie then confides in Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) that she’s worried he might not be able to give Paul the funeral she would have liked, but she’ll find a fitting place to bury his ashes.
As the locals then gather for Paul’s funeral on what would have been his first wedding anniversary to Billy, he steps forward to lead the service – but will everything go to plan?
Spoilers for later in the week suggest things remain frosty between Bernie and Billy, however, as she makes the finishing touches to his memorial rave on the Street.
Bernie asks Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) to bring Paul’s ashes so she can give him the best spot on the dance floor, but a hungover Billy is shocked when he goes to the undertakers for Paul’s ashes only to discover Bernie already has them.
Bernie later thanks the party goers for giving Paul a night to remember before revealing her plans to send his ashes into space – just what will Billy have to say?
Coronation Street airs these airs these scenes from Monday 30 September at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
