Belle seemingly killed Tom with an axe in his back
Belle was forced to take action as Tom chased her
But we now know that Tom is ALIVE
It came following a cat and mouse chase in which Tom tried to track down a gun-brandishing Belle on the land surrounding her home.
After a mishap with the shotgun and fearing for her life, a terrified Belle was forced to stab Tom in order to save herself.
In tonight’s episode of the ITV soap opera, viewers finally learned the truth about what happened to Tom.
As Belle returned home, she admitted to Lydia, Sam and Vinny that she had in fact killed Tom.
She told them about the scary chase and how she feared for her own life before taking his.
A stunned Vinny went to the outbuidling where he discovered Tom’s apparently lifeless body with the axe firmly stuck into his back.
The revealtion that Tom was dead sent the Dingle clan into overdrive as Lydia decided that they must cover up what had happened.
Taking charge, she attempted to come up with a plan and a cover story for Belle in order to get rid of Tom’s body and ensure his death was not linked to the family.
Nervous Vinny repeatedly insisted that they should phone the police and say Belle acted in self-defence but Lydia knew that the cops would not take it seriously and that Belle would be jailed for the crime.
As Belle remained nearby in shock, Lydia ordered Sam and Vinny to move the body by putting it into the van so that she could began to fully clean and get rid of any evidence.
As Sam went to retrive Tom’s body, a huge twist was revealed.
Tom has disappeared with the axe still remaining in the disused building.
Sam and Vinny quiclkly realised that Tom must in fact be ALIVE as Lydia made them chase down after him.
However. they were not quick enough as it was Dr. Liam who found a collapsed Tom by the road a short walk away from the Dingle house.
Amid panic that questions would now be asked and that if Tom was to survive, he could blame Belle, Sam and Vinny acted none the wiser and headed to the hospital in order to keep a close eye on Tom and stop him from talking.
However, Tom’s uncle Jimmy already began to suspect why they were there as it became clear he was assuming that Belle was responsible.
With Belle discovering her husband’s fate, she defied Lydia’s orders and rushed to the hospital.
As doctors confirmed Tom was suffering as they were unable to manage his pain levels, Belle arrived but Sam and Vinny managed to guard her from seeing Jimmy.
It was hear that Belle revealed that she needed to confess all and that she could not live with herself for killing a second person, having previously faced jail for the murder of her teenage best friend, Gemma.
Speaking to Sam and Vinny, a distressed Belle said: “I need to go in there [Tom’s hospital room] and see what’s going on.”
As they insisted she should go home and she could “blow everything”, Belle replied: “But I already have, haven’t I?
“If he survives and he lands me in it, then my life is over.
“So whatever happens, I am screwed.
“He’s won, hasn’t he?”
Will Tom survive his injuries and what will this mean for Belle?
