EastEnders star, Nina Wadia, has slammed so-called ‘fat jabs’ while lifting the lid on her weight loss secrets. The actress, 57, who played Zainab Masood on the BBC soap for six years, speaks candidly about her stunning new look, which she says is down to exercise and healthy eating.

Revealing how she maintains her incredible figure, the actress, who took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, says she now embraces a healthier lifestyle and has more energy because of it. Admitting that she has taken time to lose weight, she said: “For me I have done it very, very slowly. I exercise. I walk. I eat healthier. I think its better to do it that way.”

Meanwhile, referring to fat jabs, Nina insisted “quick fixes never work”, telling The Sun: “Quick fixes never work. it’s a change in lifestyle. I’ve just done work with the NHS on this.”

Promoting her This Girl Can campaign, which aims to encourage being active as you get older, Nina says she’s also drinking natural juices and eating more vegetarian food.

It certainly seems to be paying off as she looks incredible. However, the actress, who shot to fame in Goodness Gracious Me in the nineties, admits she is struggling to find TV work.

Admitting that acting roles can be “scarce”, particularly for a mum-of-two, she said: “As you get older jobs get a bit more scarce. Just generally speaking its just trying to balance career and lifestyle.

“It’s hard being a mother and having this career because you do have to prioritise being a mother, that is the most important. Throughout my career there has been moments of discrimination for being a mother, and I’ve chosen motherhood over the work, and they’ve been like okay, well maybe we won’t see you for another couple of years. It’s tough.”

Nina soon became a fan favourite on EastEnders when she rocked up in Albert Square in 2007. However, she left six years later before citing the soap’s ‘ridiculous storylines’ as one of the reasons why.

Chatting to Vanessa Feltz on her Channel 5 show, she said: “When the storylines get so ridiculous and so difficult, you kind of think ‘I’m out.'” The actress continued: “The reason I left was because the storylines were getting ridiculous. “That was one of the reasons I left. There were several, but that was one of the main reasons.

“My husband Masood was going to have yet another affair. And I was like, ‘How can I react any differently [to the] way I reacted before when he told me he was having an affair?”
