EXCLUSIVE: Hollyoaks star calls for Justin Burton return ahead of ‘explosive’ new Osborne plot
One Hollyoaks star has shared their hopes that bosses will bring back an iconic character, 17 years after they left the village despite them recently being killed off offscreen
One Hollyoaks star says it’s time to bring back an iconic character, with there being “unfinished business”.
Speaking to The Mirror, actress Jessica Fox, who plays Nancy Osborne on the Channel 4 soap, gave just one name when asked which character needed to make a return. Jess said it was time to bring back Justin Barton, after bosses shockingly killed him off offscreen in 2023.
Chris Fountain had left the role in 2009, with fans always hoping he would return. The actor also seemed keen for a comeback, so it came as a shock to annoyed fans when the soap decided to kill him off as part of a storyline with his son Charlie Dean.
Jess admits she “doesn’t buy it” though, convinced there is a way to bring Justin back to the show. She’s all for it, admitting there is so much “unfinished business” to explore with the character and her own.

Jess told us: “I think there is unfinished history with Justin Burton. I don’t buy it, we didn’t see a body and how many times have we killed Claire now? Dead doesn’t mean what it used to in soap land.
“I still feel there is unfinished business with Justin and Charlie and Nancy and that whole group. I will say that one forever.” We’re sure fans will agree given the uproar over bosses killing the character off for no reason.
Jess then teased a massive new storyline for the Osbornes coming up, calling it “explosive”. She said: “There’s an explosive storyline… something that is gonna rock the Osbornes massively.
“While Nancy and Darren are dealing with their best friends Tony and Diane, and Diane’s cancer news, they are also gonna have troubles of their own. Life never runs smoothly does it.
“And let’s say Jack Osborne has got a lot to seal with coming up quite soon. He’s got some difficult choices to make.” Jess also revealed Nancy and Darren’s role in Diane’s advanced ovarian cancer storyline.
She said: “I think they justr wanna be there for them and Nancy is also Head Teacher at the school all the kids are at. So she’s got that responsibility there, so she wants to make sure the kids know they have got someone to talk to and they just wanna be there for their friends.”
