Coronation Street favourite gets her job back after hard ordeal
Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) actually receives some good news in Coronation Street next week after quite a lot of drama and stress.
Ever since she arrived in Weatherfield, Betsy has proved herself to be nothing like her mum DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). When she got involved with manipulative creep Joel Deering (Calum Lill), Betsy was completely out of her depth when he forced her to phone a medical company to gain access to some labour inducing drugs.
Betsy confessed her involvement in this only because she discovered how poorly Joel and Lauren’s (Cait Fitton) son Frankie had become. Fearful she’d land in huge trouble, Betsy told her mum everything.
While this impacted her a great deal, the teen hasn’t completely turned over a new leaf as next week, she accidentally tells an important client that Carla is in court for ABH.
After her appearance in court, Carla takes her anger out on Betsy and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) following the difficult day.
Later, Betsy finds Mason (Luca Toolan) in the precinct and they chat about their troublesome lives.
Fortunately, luck is on Betsy’s side towards the end of the week, as Carla buys her a coffee and confirms she can have her job back at the factory. It leaves Betsy delighted.
This development comes ahead of a storyline that will focus on Carla and DS Swain’s feelings for each other.
Discussing Carla’s thoughts for her new friend, star Alison King said: ‘I think Carla’s still in shock and she’s very much in the moment. There is a real friendship growing between them and the fact that she’s come around to check on her really means something to Carla. I think because she’s taken Betsy on, there’s kind of kindred spirit forming.
‘We’ve seen Lisa have a bad day and Carla being a shoulder to lean on. She’s got a lot of understanding about how difficult Betsy is. She’s just come out of a relationship herself so she understands some of the loss Lisa is feeling after Becky. It’s been a long time since Carla has had a female friend, somebody who’s actually leaning on her but is also a powerhouse in her own right.
‘Now Lisa is there for her, she’s leaning on Lisa for the first time and it’s becoming quite a confusing friendship.
‘Lisa keeps appearing, she’s always there because of that link through Betsy, and there’s a bond growing between them that Carla can’t quite define.’
