DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) made a devastating admission to Carla Connor (Alison King) in recent Coronation Street scenes as lines between them blurred.

Carla and Lisa have struck up a close friendship over the past few months, but in tonight’s episode a line was crossed that may see it develop into something more.

Over the past few months, Carla has offered support to Lisa as she battled through the grief of losing wife Becky two and a half years ago, and today came Lisa’s turn to repay her.

Following a trip to court where Carla pleaded guilty to ABH and left with a fine, the factory-boss was followed back to her workplace and confronted by the father of the lad she’d knocked off his bike.

In a terrifying situation, Carla was alone with the man, who appeared out of control and dangerous.

Fortunately, Lisa arrived just in time – though she was totally alone and off duty.

However, this didn’t stop her from jumping in to save Carla, putting the dad under arrest before calling for backup – much to Carla’s horror.

Later, when Lisa went round to check on Carla and the pair cracked open a bottle of red wine, she questioned why the detective hadn’t waited outside and called for backup first.

In a devastating admission, Lisa revealed that she wasn’t scared to put herself in danger, because after what had happened to Becky it would be easier if something went wrong, so she wouldn’t have to ‘work so hard and fight to get out of bed some days’.

Horrified, Carla asked if she wanted to be killed on duty, which Lisa denied, attempting to explain that it was more complicated than that.

She admitted that she would never want Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to go through that type of grief again, but that ‘it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world’ if it did happen.

She went on to realise that she needed to do something to stop having those types of thoughts, and decided that it was time to go home.

Before she left, Carla offered her a hug, and Lisa was quick to admit that, despite having earlier insisted that she couldn’t put herself through another relationship, she had missed the attention.

In a warm moment, with romantic music playing softly in the background, Carla stroked a strand of hair from Lisa’s face and begged her not to put herself in danger, for Betsy’s sake.

After a brief moment, Lisa became overwhelmed, and rushed out of the door, just as Carla realised what had gone on between them.

As Lisa fled, Carla appeared conflicted. Will their relationship ever be the same, or have they crossed a line they can never come back from?
