Sarah confronted over Gary ‘affair’ in Coronation Street as Maria gets suspicious
Gary Windass (Mikey North) is hiding something. Did he kill Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), or is he hiding an affair with his ex? Guess which one his wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) is most bothered about…
It’s the juiciest affair that may have never happened.
On the night of abusive monster Theo’s murder, was Gary sneaking off for an illicit rendezvous with his former flame Sarah Platt? (Tina O’Brien).That’s the theory doing the rounds with die-hard Corrie viewers. And it looks like it might be more than a theory.
While Theo lay on the Cobbles slain by a mystery attacker, Sarah was also on the ground after being attacked by the unhinged Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown), because she’d caught the bunny-boiling baddie trashing the Platts after being thrown out by David (Jack P Shepherd).
Gary and Sarah had a thing going on from 2016 to 2019, which finally came to an end when Sarah had enough of the bad boy builder’s descent into crime.
Just as well too, as this downward spiral led to Gary getting blood on his hands. Once when he caused the factory roof to cave in, resulting in the accidental death of Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), and then killing ruthless loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) in self-defence.
Fortunately, the scariest builder in Weatherfield has cleaned up his act since shacking up with Coronation Street legend Maria Connor. However, this murderous rap sheet frankly makes it all the more likely that he was the one who made Theo breathe his last.
After all, Gary befriended Theo and gave him a job on the building site. He even defended his ex-best mate against allegations of abusing Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), until Sarah sets him straight. Gary can’t stand bullies… but how does he feel about cheaters?
The ex-lovers have been having cosy conversations since the night of Theo’s murder and Sarah’s attack.On that night, Gary was eager to stop Sarah’s copper boyfriend Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) from seeing the CCTV from that night. Mainly because it showed incriminating footage of him wrecking Theo’s van with a sledgehammer. That’s why Maria provided her man a false alibi. However, what if that CCTV footage showed more than Gary’s act of van-dalism?
While Kit’s been away, Sarah has repeatedly called expressing how much she misses him. While she might just be struggling after her attack, it could also be a symptom of guilt from infidelity.
That’s certainly what Jodie thinks.
While Sarah was on the phone to Gary, assuring her ex that he wasn’t alone and he’d always have her, Jodie was creeping around the house and heard every word. When confronted, Sarah insisted that there was nothing going on with Gary. But Jodie was convinced that the pair were carrying on behind Maria’s back and promised to keep the secret ‘for now’.
Hardly reassuring. But Sarah might have bigger problems to worry about… starting with Maria. Especially after Maria made a casual comment about Sarah forgetting Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) birthday, and Gary went overboard with an impassioned defence of his ex. This was the start of Maria’s suspicions.
Her worries will only deepen in upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, when Kit continues to consider Gary a prime suspect in Theo’s murder, Maria finds herself sharing the police officer’s suspicions over her husband’s recent erratic behaviour… but for entirely different reasons.
When Maria spots Gary and Sarah sharing a hug, as Gary asserts they must delete all their messages, Maria watches them with suspicion. Can Maria find proof that they’re having an affair?
Increasingly worried, Maria opens up to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Izzy (Cherylee Houston) about how she suspects Gary is having an affair with Sarah.
These suspicions get back to Todd, who Todd Sarah about Maria’s worries that she’s seeing Gary on the side. Will Sarah come clean?
Not if Gary does first, when a sombre looking Maria tells him that they need to talk. Masking his unease, Gary suggests they meet for a curry later. Is he about to admit the affair?
