Christmas Day wedding for Coronation Street legend – but devastation follows
Coronation Street icon Gail Platt (Helen Worth) is set to be married one final time ahead of her exit this Christmas – but will it go to plan?
Of course, the lucky fella is Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson), who recently returned to her life after a number of years.
Gail explained to mum Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) that they had a brief holiday romance in Thailand in 2021, having first met when he dated Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) in the late 2000s.
Now, wedding bells are set to ring out across Weatherfield for Gail’s exit story, which was confirmed in June.
At the time, executive producer Iain Macleod confirmed a ‘happy ending’ for the cobbles legend, so this would certainly tie in!
‘Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right’ he told the Daily Star.
‘Gail’s exit is a brilliant story, I thought what do viewers want to see?
‘Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and some disastrous marriages. So, we thought what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that’s what we’re doing.’
Metro understands that cast and crew have been filming the big day over the last week, with actress Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Connor, posting a picture of wedding celebrations at the Viaduct Bistro on Instagram.
Alongside the picture she wrote: ‘1. #bts It was Xmas day in @coronationstreet .. no spoilers but Maria got a bit dressed up.’
As with most Weatherfield weddings, they don’t always go to plan.
A source told the Irish Mirror: ‘The wedding scenes are being filmed at the moment and when they air, viewers will be gripped.’
Gail Platt’s (many) husbands!
- Brian Tilsley (1979 and 1988)
- Martin Platt (1991)
- Richard Hillman (2002)
- Joe McIntyre (2010)
- Michael Rodwell (2015)
- Jesse Chadwick?
‘As with any soap wedding, they will have to wait to see whether Gail makes it down the aisle or not.
‘And with a character as popular as her, they will be hoping she finally gets a happy ending.’
We’ve seen Gail’s children less than impressed by Jesse’s arrival, and there’s nobody less happy than her archenemy Eileen!
Could they be the ones to prevent the big day going smoothly?
