Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) has been really struggling in the aftermath of brother Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) death in Coronation Street.

Paul died in September after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease, and the family have been trying to continue their lives without him in it.

Recently, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) asked Gemma if she wanted to return to work at the Rovers, and against Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) wishes, she agreed.

However, her first shift back wasn’t very successful, as she struggled to take her mind off Paul.

A conversation with Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) about his beliefs that there was no such thing as heaven left her upset, and Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) attempt at support left Gemma even more overwhelmed.

After giving her some time, Jenny and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) attempted to comfort her in the back room.

As Gemma revealed that she thought she was ready to come back to work, but that everywhere reminded her of Paul, Kit suggested that she take the quads and get away for a while.

He revealed that he had a friend who owned a cottage in Cumbria that he could get for free, and urged Gemma to accept the offer.

However, Gemma was unsure, pointing out that she couldn’t afford not to work.

Back at home, Chesney found Gemma looking at pictures of Paul, and she explained that she was trying to relive happy memories, but it wasn’t working.

She then told Chesney all about Kit’s suggestion of a holiday, and to her surprise Chesney agreed.

He encouraged her to take Kit up on his offer, and promised that he would be able to take care of things while she was away.

Finally, Gemma relented and agreed to go on the trip. Will it help?
