This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Coronation Street has confirmed its fifth official suspect in Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) murder case in a dramatic new flashback.

In tonight’s episode, viewers finally learnt the truth about DS Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) whereabouts on the night of Joel’s death – and the mysterious injuries she has been hiding.

In the episode following Joel’s disappearance, it was impossible not to notice that Lisa was in a lot of pain, with many fans speculating that she had been involved in some kind of altercation – potentially with Joel himself.

In the latest instalment of the ITV soap, Lisa continued with her police work, having been taken off Joel’s case and replaced by DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) after Joel’s threats toward Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) came to light.

Lisa was less than impressed to be dealing with the theft of a catalytic converter and damage to a vehicle, but the case soon took a direction that she wasn’t expecting.

The damaged car just happened to be on the same road as Joel’s flat, and Lisa’s interest was piqued when she learnt that the damage to the car had occurred on the night of his murder.

As the owner of the vehicle revealed that he had heard two men fighting that night, Lisa promised to get forensics to look at the scratches on the car, in the hopes of finding some information that may point to Joel’s killer.

After learning that Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) red car had been in for a repair, she confronted him about it in the Rovers, much to Dee-Dee Bailey’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) horror.

Following the confrontation, Lisa took to the Bistro with Carla Connor (Alison King), where she lamented coming on too strong with Ronnie.

As Carla tried to comfort her, she reached over to give her a hug, only for Lisa to flinch away before swiftly leaving.

Though Carla was left hurt and confused by the reaction, viewers soon discovered the real reason Lisa had behaved that way – and it was much darker than Carla realised.

That night, Lisa examined some painful looking bruises in her bathroom mirror, before remembering the events of the night of Joel’s death.

A flashback showed her chasing someone through the precinct, yelling at them to stop as she wielded her police baton.

As a car engine revved in the background, she lunged forward with the baton – but what happened next remains a mystery…

Was she chasing Joel that night? Did she attack him? Could Lisa be Joel’s killer?
