Carla Connor (Alison King) has been friendzoned by DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in Coronation Street, and we’re almost as devastated as she is.

Carla and Lisa have had a rocky relationship since they first met just over a year ago, going from enemies to friends to something much more complicated.

After sharing a charged moment several weeks ago, things grew awkward between them as Lisa attempted to push Carla away.

Thankfully, they managed to repair their friendship, and in tonight’s episode they were back on top form, with Carla going out of her way to help Lisa in her time of need.

Wanting to win Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) over, Lisa had come up with a plan to buy them both festival tickets – something that Carla thought was absolutely hilarious.

With Lisa’s WIFI down at home, Carla allowed her to take refuge in her office at the factory, and Lisa was more than grateful.

Betsy was left totally confused when she found her mum hanging out at her place of work, but after being shooed off to buy some lunch by Carla, she left without any further questions.

Carla and Lisa’s typical banter returned as they debated their lunch options, before Lisa received a text message summoning her to the station, where she faced a grilling from DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) about a text she had drafted to Joel Deering (Calum Lill).

With Lisa otherwise occupied, Carla kept her eye on the ticket site, in the hope that Lisa would return to some good news.

Later, the women met in the Bistro, where Lisa lamented how much Kit had enjoyed telling her she was being suspended from work.

It was then that it hit her that she had forgotten to buy the tickets, and her disappointment was palpable.

However, when Carla revealed that she had managed to get them some, Lisa was thrilled, and gave her as big a hug her bruises would allow.

However, things took a turn for the worse for Carla when Lisa thanked her for being ‘such a good mate’. Ouch.

Anyone who’s ever been in the same position knows that that feels like a stab in the heart – and Carla’s face did nothing to hide how she felt about being just Lisa’s friend.

Are hopes of a romance between the pair dwindling, or will they both finally accept that they have feelings for each other?
