This article contains spoilers for tonight’s Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on ITVX.

Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) murder case took a shocking turn in recent Coronation Street scenes when DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) was arrested for the crime.

DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has been at the helm of the investigation for the past few weeks, and was suddenly inundated with a whole host of new information to start the week.

To start his day, Kit was visited by Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), who confessed that she had hit Joel with a crowbar on the night of his death.

Kit pushed her hard for extra information, and Dee-Dee insisted that she had acted in self-defence, and that Joel was still alive when she left him.

However, the interview was soon interrupted by Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), who revealed that the murder weapon had been uncovered – and it wasn’t a crowbar at all.

PC Tinker explained that the true murder weapon had been a rock – and that there was something suspicious found alongside it…

Meanwhile, Lisa was making the most of her annual leave by getting drunk in the Rovers – much to Carla Connor’s (Alsion King) horror.

As Carla attempted to give Lisa an update on Dee-Dee’s confession, the pair were interrupted by a determined Kit, who arrested Lisa for Joel’s murder.

During her interview, he revealed that her issue CS spray had been found alongside the murder weapon – though Lisa argued that she thought she had lost it when she was struck down by a car on the evening of Joel’s death.

Lisa was quick to point out that she had been in hospital after the incident, and that she couldn’t possibly have overpowered Joel with the broken ribs she had sustained.

However, Kit argued that she could have struck him with a rock from behind, and pointed out that she had already proved that she had motive to want him dead when she typed out a threatening text to him.

When Kit revealed that he would need to trace her phone to determine her whereabouts on the night of Joel’s death, Lisa pointed out that it had been broken when she was knocked down.

It was then that Kit announced he would be keeping Lisa in over night – leaving her completely blindsided.

Her pleas that she needed to get home for Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) fell on deaf ears, with Kit instead offering to ring social services, leaving Lisa devastated.

With Lisa tucked up in a cell for the night, Carla wasted no time in confronting Kit, desperate for some information – though Kit refused to give it.

Later, she enlisted the help of Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges), as she tried to come up with a plan to free Lisa.

When Ed mentioned that Joel had been carrying a suitcase with him that if found could lead them to the killer, Carla was struck by a memory from the night of Joel’s death.

In a flashback, she saw Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and Max Turner (Paddy Bever) loading a suitcase into the boot of a car…

Could Carla hold the key to proving Lisa’s innocence, or is this just another red herring?
