Olivia Bromley admits aspect of Emmerdale role that ‘depresses her’ the most
Emmerdale’s Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) has not had an easy time of it of late.
But amid the character’s hard-going storylines, actress Olivia Bromley has admitted there’s one surprising aspect of her role that ‘depresses her’ most.
‘I hate Dawn’s wardrobe with a passion,’ Olivia said during a recent interview with Inside Soap, ‘It depresses me – I can’t lie.
‘I wish she could be as glamorous as Kim Tate (Claire King). Unfortunately, I’m saddled with drab jumpers.’
However, Olivia did reason that Dawn’s style – or perhaps lack thereof – ‘says a lot about her’.
‘She’s not thinking about how she looks,’ Olivia said.
‘There used to be this big fluffy black coat I wore for years and years — the iconic Dawn coat. But it’s horrible! She can’t wear that any more. I would love them to put some make-up on me.’
The actress – who joined the ITV soap in 2018 – also revealed she’s another direction she’d love her character to go in.
Olivia said: ‘I’ve always thought it would be nice for Dawn to display a different side of herself, which could be shown by working behind the bar, or doing some more comedy, maybe alongside Charity and Chas. Because that is a totally different thing to play, where you could see her just commenting on the action.
‘But she’d probably be the most grumpy barmaid!’ she joked.
Last week, Dawn’s marriage to Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) rocked by her discovery that he is taking part in illegal underground fights after Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore) threatened their family.
In recent months, Dawn and Billy have also been caring for their sick son Evan, after he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
