ITV has made a huge change to Coronation Street today, as viewers prepare to finally discover who killed Joel Deering (Calum Lill).

Joel was murdered in September, and there are countless suspects in the frame, with the truth of whodunnit finally set to be revealed this evening.

Just weeks after introducing a new scheme that has seen Coronation Street episodes drop on ITVX at 7am ahead of their TV broadcast, tonight’s episode is being held back from the streaming service.

This is to prevent any spoilers for viewers, and to allow everyone to find out the real killer at the same time.

In the special episode, flashbacks and police interviews will reveal what really happened on the night of Joel’s death.

Viewers will know that Joel’s body was found in a river, with the post-mortem determining that he had suffered two blows to the head with a heavy weapon before hitting the water.

On Wednesday night, Max Turner (Paddy Bever) handed himself into the police, claiming to have killed Joel in self-defence, before being charged with his murder.

Mason, Ed, Ronnie, Lisa, Carla, Kit, Dee-Dee, Lauren and Max all lined up in the police station as suspects in Coronation Street

Actor Paddy Bever has promised that tonight’s episode will give viewers the full picture of Joel’s murder, adding: ‘And of course, it’s Coronation Street, so there’s bound to be a few twists and turns…’

Following the dramatic episode, fans can tune into ITVX for Coronation Street Live – Killer on the Cobbles.

Set to air at 9pm, this special show will see This Morning’s Sharon Marshall interview the cast members involved in the storyline live from the cobbles, as well as getting their reactions to the killer.
