Coronation Street finally confirms who really killed Joel Deering – and it wasn’t Max Turner
Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) true killer has finally been revealed in Coronation Street, and it wasn’t Max Turner (Paddy Bever).
Max handed himself in earlier this week and claimed that he had killed Joel in self-defence, but tonight’s emotional episode proved that he had been lying to protect the real killer.
In a series of flashbacks, we learnt that Max was partly telling the truth – he really did confront Joel on the railway bridge on the night of his murder, and even threw his body into the river below.
However, it turned out that the person to deliver the fatal blow was actually Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
After witnessing Joel strangling Max, Lauren lashed out to protect him, and was horrified when Joel dropped dead on the tracks.
Poor Lauren was beside herself as she worried about what her actions would mean for her future and that of son Frankie, but Max tried his best to reassure her.
Unfortunately, DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) didn’t buy Max’s story, and called him out on his argument of self-defence.
He pointed out that it would have been impossible for Joel to sustain injuries in the places he did if Max had really hit him from the angle he was saying.

Despite his disbelief, Kit charged Max with Joel’s murder, before pulling Lauren in for questioning.
Lauren was evasive as he questioned her, and he soon let her go – though he remained sure that she had something to do with it.
Will Kit get to the bottom of Joel’s murder, or is Lauren set to get away with her crime?
When Max handed himself in, he seemed to believe that he wouldn’t end up behind bars – could he come to regret his decision to lie?
