‘They are so special!’ Coronation Street fans losing it over ‘epic’ Carla and Lisa development
This article contains spoilers from Friday’s episode of Coronation Street, which is already available to stream on ITVX.
Coronation Street fans have shared their joy at seeing Carla Connor (Alison King) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) finally get it together.
There has been simmering chemistry between the pair for months now, but Carla had struggled to understand her growing feelings for her friend.
However, there was a big development in the slow-burning storyline as the pair gave into passion during Friday’s episode of the ITV soap.
Viewers who have already streamed the latest instalment on ITVX ahead of its ITV1 broadcast saw Lisa waking up at Carla’s hungover after spending the night on her sofa.
Carla gave her a place to stay at the end of Wednesday’s episode after Lisa got drunk after a row with daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin), feeling guilty for having forgotten it was her late wife Becky’s birthday.
The following morning, Carla sought advice from her nephew Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) about her feelings for Lisa, admitting she felt out of her depth having never been with a woman before.
After Ryan urged her to go for it, Carla headed back to her flat where Lisa was getting dressed.
‘Don’t get dressed,’ Carla said after bursting into the room, before she and Lisa shared a passionate kiss.
Fans later saw Lisa order Carla back to the bedroom for round two.
Needless to say the turn of events delighted ‘Swarla’ fans.
‘I am going to watch this on repeat everyday for the rest of my life oh my god,’ one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
‘I CAN’T FUNCTION PROPERLY ??????’ another posted.
‘They’re so in love,’ observed another.
A fourth posted: ‘HOW ARE YOU TODAY SWARLA NATION WE WON AND THEY WENT FOR THE KISS MY GOD.’
Another fan wrote: ‘When lisa swain said she liked to make a woman sweat? no lies were told. carla connor’s hiding in the kitchen fighting for her life.’
‘The way they are both looking at each other though?’ another said. ‘The way they were both so content and happy, with zero regrets about what happened? They both deserve so much happiness and are finding it in each other. They are so special.’
Another added: ‘Swarla’s relationship is gonna run long and go deep and they’re gonna end up being each other’s true love. Get ready for how epic Carla and Lisa’s love story is gonna be Corrie fans and for the ascendency of the Swain-Connor family on the street, it’s happening!’
However, the couple’s joy was short-lived after they faced opposition from Betsy when they later bumped into her at the Rovers.
Realising what’s been going on with Carla, Betsy chucked a drink over her mum in disgust.
Lisa then told Carla they should keep their distance from one another as her daughter needed to be her priority.
A hurt Carla later lashed out at Betsy, telling her she needed to grow up, accept Becky’s death and allow Lisa to be happy.
Betsy then sought revenge, meeting with Logan (Harry Lowbridge) and Matty Radcliffe (Séamus McGoff) to tell them she’d let them into the factory so they could steal what they liked – on the condition they leave brother Mason (Luca Toolan) alone.
Has Betsy scuppered Swarla’s future, or is there a way forward for the couple?
