Emmerdale’s Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) made a seriously shocking move after running out of funds as he logged in to fiancée Brenda Walker’s (Lesley Dunlop) bank account to take from hers.
The long-serving village legend, as fans know, has been throwing caution to the wind where money is concerned as of late, proposing to Brenda, paying for an engagement party and telling her to plan her dream wedding.
Brenda was over the moon, believing that her notoriously tight partner was simply trying to make the most of life following his diagnosis with Parkinson’s.
During a very special engagement party at The Hide on Thursday (November 28), Eric gifted his wife-to-be with a round-the-world cruise, leaving her in tears.
But the happiness was short-lived as Eric received a notification on his phone, which informed him that he had absolutely zero finds in his bank account.
Leyla Cavanagh (Roxy Shahidi), who returned to screens this week, saw the patriarch’s worried expression and followed him back home, where Eric confessed that he’d invested all of his life savings in cryptocurrency – and he’s been left with nothing.
Fearing he’d been scammed, Eric called Matthew, the head of the investment hub, who claimed that this is a normal occurrence – that the market goes down before it goes back up again.
Eric was relieved and relayed to Leyla that he was offered a special rate that’s only available to the best customers, though given that he had nothing left to invest he was unable to take Matthew up on that deal.
That is, until he logged into Brenda’s account!
Next week will see Brenda find the perfect wedding dress but, when she goes to buy it, she’s told she has no money in her account. Eric is left with no choice but to come clean, with Brenda worried that his behaviour – including his proposal – was influenced by his medication.
