Shona spirals as David’s lies prompt violent attack in Coronation Street
Shona Platt (Julia Goulding)’s world was turned upside down in Coronation Street recently when she was contacted by the prison where her son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) is currently serving a sentence for murder. She was told that Clayton had attempted to take his own life and was in a very bad way in hospital.
Shona’s immediate instinct was to go to see Clayton, insisting that he’s her son and despite his crimes she will always love him.
For Shona’s husband David (Jack P Shepherd), however, the news about Clayton came with some very complex feelings and a huge helping of guilt. Clayton is the person who murdered David’s late wife Kylie (Paula Lane), leaving her to die in David’s arms.
When David recently discovered that Clayton had been attempting to contact Shona he obtained a visiting order himself and secretly went to see Clayton in prison.
He told him that Shona wanted nothing to do with him. David knew this was a lie, but his own hatred of Clayton made him think it was best if Shona was left with no idea that her son had tried to contact her.
In the wake of Clayton’s suicide attempt, however, Shona is desperate to see her son. She and David go to a meeting with the prison governor, who reveals that Clayton had issued two visiting orders and a person came to see him.
Shona’s suspicious that this person was David, but he guiltily denies it.
Later he tells Max (Paddy Bever) about his visit to the prison but makes him promise not to say anything to Shona, knowing how upset she would be. Just then, Steve (Simon Gregson) tells him that he’s just driven Shona to the prison in his cab.
Worried about what she could find out, David and Max hurry after her and gets there in time to see a row escalating between Shona and the prison governor as she tries to find out who visited Clayton.
As things get more and more heated, Shona lashes out and pushes the governor.
With Shona now at very real risk of being arrested for assault, Max uneasily knows that he has the information that Shona wants. He also knows that David swore him to secrecy.
Will he tell Shona about David’s visit to see Clayton?
