The Platts have had a lot to contend with in Coronation Street of late – from Gail (Helen Worth) and Jessie Chadwick’s (John Thomson) whirlwind romance, to David and Shona’s (Jack P Shepherd and Julia Goulding) crumbling marriage, it has all been going on.

But they have something else to worry about next week, when Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) seemingly takes ill.

Later this month, Audrey is still coming to terms with a big announcement Gail and Jesse have dropped on the family.

Appearing as though things have become too much for her, Gail is concerned for Audrey’s health and insists on taking her temperature.

However, when Gail is not looking she secretly dunks the thermometer in David’s coffee.

As Gail reads the result, she orders Audrey to see a doctor as soon as possible.

With there seemingly being more to Audrey’s ‘illness’  than meets the eye, just what is she up to?

The ITV soap is currently building towards Helen Worth exit as Gail, with her final scenes set to air on Christmas Day.

The actress told fans she was leaving the show back in June after 50 years on the cobbles.

Gail’s exit story was originally set to involve her reuniting with her former husband Martin Platt, but after Sean Wilson left the show after filming had started, the story was quickly redrafted and John Thomson was brought back as Jesse Chadwick.

It looks like there are a few more twists and turns before Gail leaves, however.

Corrie boss Kate Brooks recently teased the events of Christmas Day in a chat with Metro, saying: ‘It’s a story about how secrets impact and implode on a family, so there’s a lot of betrayals, and lots of secrets are exposed during this episode.’

Kate admitted that Gail is oblivious as ‘bombs go off all around her,’ until she makes some discoveries that leave her questioning everything she has ever done in a final hurrah for the character…
