Who is Aidan Moore in Emmerdale and what is his connection to John Sugden?
Emmerdale revisits John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) past this week with another mention of Aidan Moore.
John, as viewers know, is very much an enigma and he’s been that way since he rocked up in the eponymous village earlier this year.
He has mellowed somewhat since embarking on a relationship with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), forging a close bond not only with him but also with sister Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins).
But having said that, we still know very little about John, who is a rather closed book when it comes to sharing information about his past.
What we do know is that he had a close bond with someone named Aidan Moore.
Aidan has been mentioned before, when Victoria snooped in her brother’s van and found a dog tag with the man’s name on it, which prompted newcomer John to share the story with his sister.
As Aidan receives another mention this week, we thought it only fitting to take a look back at what we know about him thus far.
Who is Aidan Moore in Emmerdale and how is he connected to John?
Aidan was a friend of John’s from his time in the army. They were best mates and served together in Afghanistan.
The story ended in tragedy, however, with Aidan killed when a bomb went off during a kickabout with a young recruit.
‘I tried my best to save him,’ said an emotional John, as he filled Victoria in on the upsetting story.
‘I told him I could but I was lying, I had to. I could see the fear in his eyes. I held his hand as he slowly slipped away.’
‘Aidan thought I could save him and I let him down. I can never forgive myself for that.’
This week, John goes on a camping trip with Aaron and, as the two discuss the past, it becomes clear that John is still struggling with guilt over what transpired with Aidan.
Can Aaron help him? That remains to be seen but the two lovers ultimately confess their love for one another and look to the future.
