David uncovers the truth about Shona in Coronation Street – as unexpected character spills the beans
David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) has uncovered his wife Shona (Julia Goulding) affair with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in Coronation Street.
The festive edition of the long-running ITV soap was jam-packed full of drama as stalwart Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) married Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) and drove off into the sunset after 50 years of treading the cobbles.
Although the heart of the family would soon be gone, the episode also cemented the fact that Platt family dramas would long continue.
As one door closes, another opens!
The clan gathered together in No. 8 on Christmas morning to not only open their presents, but to celebrate David’s birthday. He was expecting to receive some flashy aftershave from Shona – but didn’t.
His worst fears began to be realised, after weeks of suspecting that she was having an affair with his former brother-in-law Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
As viewers know, Shona has indeed had a steamy fling, but not with this Scottish solicitor. He’d merely offered her a place to stay after an argument with David.
It was actually detective Kit that had managed to woo her.
Despite ruling out another rendezvous, they later met again in a hotel room.
David has remained adamant that Adam is the mystery man, and when he arrived at his house to see the family, he clocked the fact that Shona hugged him and complimented his aftershave.
Later, with Gail’s wedding celebrations underway, he snuck out of the bistro and headed over to the builder’s yard flat to confront Adam head on.
Hoping that a few drinks would coax a confession, he plied Adam with drink whilst he swigged from a vodka bottle filled with water. Adam confidently asserted that he hadn’t slept with Shona, and then demanded David should return to the nuptials.
Their conversation turned physical, and the two men found themselves on the balcony above the builder’s yard.
With David stood at the top of the staircase, Adam tried to push past and tumbled down. Shona and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) rushed over, and he was blue-lighted to hospital.
Luckily, he got away with very few injuries, and the bigger damage came from the ensuing confrontation between David and Shona.
He demanded to know outright if she’d had an affair, which she admitted. With they marriage on the rocks, Gail offered her son a few words of wisdom before her departure.
