There are some big Coronation Street cast changes ahead in 2025, new show boss Kate Brooks has revealed, with some set to take viewers by surprise.

The show has only just lost the iconic Helen Worth, who played Gail Platt for a staggering 50 years.

And, as Metro revealed, Sue Devaney will be bowing out of her role as Debbie Webster as part of a dementia storyline, although she is expected to remain with the show for some time before that arc concludes.

But there are other faces who won’t be with us by the end of year – with Kate telling us: ‘There are a few exits this year, and some unexpected ones that will send shockwaves. People might not expect the exits, but there are a few.’

As you’d expect, Kate was not about to be drawn on who they might be, so viewers will just have to wait and see.

But she also promised some big returns, with one of them being the villainous Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).

‘There are other familiar coming back in 2025 which I will not disclose, but a few people will be returning to cause their own forms of chaos,’ the former Emmerdale producer confirmed.

‘First up is Rob. We last left Rob languishing in prison. He made mistakes. He comes back to the show and we think he might be a reformed character who has seen the error of his ways, but whether that’s the case or not, I don’t know!

‘He definitely comes back and causes a lot of trouble for Carla and Lisa. Just when Carla and Lisa think it’s safe to sit down and watch Netflix, Rob Donovan comes along and scuppers all of that.

‘So, it’s a big story for them and a big story for Rob with lots of twists and turns. It’s a big story for Betsy as well, who is fabulous and will be right at the centre of that!’

New characters will also be descending on the cobbles, with Kate revealing a ‘neighbours from hell’ scenario as a new clan moves in.

It means big drama for Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), whose past will be explored via the incoming characters.

There’s a lot going on and it’s clear that Kate is thrilled to be getting her teeth into the word of Corrie.

‘I love the show, I think it’s brilliant,’ she enthused I just really want to make sure that the audience are entertained.

‘keeping them fresh and different, without losing the DNA of Corrie. ‘What makes Corrie so wonderful is the familiarity of it.

‘It’s the wit, it’s the characters. All of these stories have been packaged with that in mind. That will be at the heart of every one.’
