Devastating downfall confirmed for Coronation Street’s David – caused by unexpected person
An unexpected character will become embroiled in David Platt’s (Jack P. Shepherd) downfall in forthcoming Coronation Street scenes.
Soap boss Kate Brooks has confirmed that the character’s actions will begin to catch up with him early into 2025, as he loses things he holds dear.
As fans of the ITV fans know, David stole cash belonging to drug lord Harvey Gaskill (Will Mellor) earlier this year.
Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) offered his ex Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) the secret stash of his gangster brother’s money after hearing about Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) medical bills – but David stashed it and got Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) to launder it for him.
That decision will have ‘huge consequences’ for David as things ‘escalte massively’ next year.
Alluding to the widely-reported house fire set to rip through No.8, Kate said: ‘The story we’re telling is one of a very desperate David, trying to protect his family and keep Harvey and his goons at bay. He is struggling to navigate that, and struggling to pay back this big debt he has. He’s struggling to protect his family. It all comes to a massive head in early February, when we play a massive stunt that has huge consequences for David.
‘In trying to protect everyone and do the right thing, he ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear.
‘So, a real journey for David. He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well.’
Teasing how this plays out, Kate cryptically added: ‘Somebody does get embroiled in David’s downfall, which is quite unexpected.’
Who could it be?
While Platt matriarch Gail (Helen Worth) made her exit on Christmas Day after 50 years on the cobbles, Kate also assured fans there is plenty ahead for the beloved soap family following Gail’s departure.
David’s marriage to Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) recently hit the rocks after David found out his wife cheated on him with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
But there looks to be more drama ahead for the couple, with Kate revealing: ‘They are such a fabulous family. I love David and Shona, they are so strong. They get everything and more thrown at them in 2025 – can they survive it?
‘I’m not going to say, but it’s a lot, and they will struggle with the enormity of what’s going on.’
She added: ‘I also love David, Sarah and Nick. Now that their mum has left, they’re left to fend for themselves, and we realise that they do need Gail sometimes to steer them in the right direction, and she’s kept them on the straight and narrow.’
