Coronation Street Trailer Teases Brutal Stabbing as Mason Radcliffe’s Exit Looms

Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) announced his plans to leave Coronation Street behind and head to Germany to join Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) in last night’s episode, but he may not make it that far, as a new trailer shows.

Former bully Mason has turned his life around in recent months, having been taken under the wing of mentors like Stu and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine).

In recent scenes, his relationship with Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) has grown more serious, with Mason taking her on a romantic date earlier this week.

In last night’s episode, the pair slept together, but the mood soon changed when Betsy found a text from Stu on his phone revealing he could get him a flight to Germany the following day.

Viewers will recall that Stu left Weatherfield for a new life in Germany with granddaughter Eliza in 2024.

Betsy was horrified that Mason would choose to leave without telling her, and though Mason tried to argue that he hadn’t yet accepted the offer, Betsy ordered him out.

Before they had a chance to resolve the argument, DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) arrived, and was furious at what had clearly taken place.

When Lisa later tracked Mason down, he was keen to know why she disliked him so much, and Lisa finally revealed the truth about her hatred for his family.

Mason was left horrified as Lisa showed him photos from the crime scene of wife Becky’s murder, before revealing to the shocked teen that she knew his brothers had been in the car that killed her.

Becky was killed while on duty over three years ago, and Lisa has been trying to get justice ever since.

When Matty Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff) made a dig about Becky’s death in recent scenes, Lisa was certain he had something to do with it.

As Lisa showed Mason a list of stolen items related to Becky’s case, he came to a realisation, and soon set out on a mission to help Lisa solve the case.

Enlisting the help of Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne), Mason broke into Matty and Logan Radcliffe’s (Harry Lowbridge) flat and retrieved a World War Two helmet that had been on Lisa’s list.

When Mason took it to the station, Lisa positively identified it as the same helmet that had been stolen, and Matty and Logan were once again hauled in for questioning.

Having turned on his brothers, Mason knew he was in danger, and realised that he would be safest leaving the country.

Mason then paid a visit to Betsy, breaking the news about his brothers’ involvement in her mum’s death and revealing his plan to move abroad.

Gary, Liam, Maria, Abi, Tim, Sally, Betsy, Mason, Asha, Dylan and Sean gathered around the swings in Coronation Street's precinct, under a gloomy sky.

However, Betsy didn’t believe that he had no knowledge of the crime, and accused him of being the same as his brothers, leaving him heartbroken.

He explained what had happened to Tim and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), before revealing that Stu had opened a restaurant in Germany and had asked him to be a trainee chef.

Unfortunately, next week’s episodes will see Mason attacked by Matty and Logan and left with a brutal stab wound.

When the altercation breaks out in the children’s play area, Dylan manages to make his escape.

Abi Webster (Sally Carman) arrives at the scene to find Mason bleeding and does her best to stop the flow of blood before the ambulance shows up.

As news of the stabbing spreads around the street, the whole community is left shocked and horrified, with the tragedy affecting each resident.

Coronation Street have been working closely with The Ben Kinsella Trust to ensure the storyline will be told as accurately and sensitively as possible.
‘It’s vitally important to shine a light on this topic, and really show the impact knife crime has on not only the victim and their loved ones, but also the wider community,’ show boss Kate Brooks said.

‘With the alarming statistics, we want to do anything we can as a show to combat this violent endemic.

‘After watching this harrowing, but important story unfold, if one person thinks twice about bringing a knife to a fight, then we’ve achieved our aim to raise awareness.’

Will Mason survive the attack and get to experience his new life in Germany, or will it end in tragedy?
