Coronation Street star Luca Toolan has famous dad who is very proud of Mason actor son
This article contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of Coronation Street which airs on ITV1 at 8pm but is available to stream now on ITVX. It also contains discussions around knife violence.
Luca Toolan has bowed out of his Mason Radcliffe role after a year, in horrific scenes that saw him fatally stabbed by his brothers.
The youngster, was attacked by a zombie knife while protecting Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) who had intervened to help his former bully.
After being rushed into hospital, hospital staff worked tirelessly to keep him alive, to no avail.
The long-running plot kicked off when Mason manipulated Dylan into joining his gang so they could target Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall).
Over the course of many months, the teens were responsible for making Liam’s life hell, physically torturing him and sending vile messages online.
The situation changed dramatically for Liam when he contemplated taking his own life. Liam couldn’t see a way out of the pain he was experiencing, and believed this was the only option.
Mason later spent time inside for knife crime, but upon his return we saw more reformed character. He was mentored by Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows), who gave him a job, and found love in Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin).
More recently, Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine) welcomed him into their family home.
Earlier this year, radio DJ Mike Toolan, Luca’s father, paid tribute to his son and co-stars following their award nominations.
Mike currently presents the drivetime show on Hits radio every weekday afternoon and has worked alongside Corrie’s Brooke Vincent and Hollyoaks’ Gemma Atkinson.
As the powerful storyline played out, stars Luca, Charlie Wrenshall and Liam McCheyne were all nominated for an Inside Soap Award.
Charlie and Liam were up for the Best Young Performer award, while Luca sits alongside the likes of Coronation Street’s Calum Lill and EastEnders’ Matt Di Angelo for Best Villain.
Unfortunately, Luca lost out to Walford’s Navin Chowdhry, who played Nish Panesar, whilst Charlie picked up the gong for Best Young Performer.
Upon their nominations, Mike took to Instagram, and was full of praise for the young stars in a heartwarming post.
Sharing some pictures of the trio, Mike wrote alongside: ‘Well done to these 3 champs for all being nominated for various awards at the Inside Soap Awards.
