Carla Connor’s (Alison King) life is currently hanging in the balance in Coronation Street after sepsis damaged her kidney.

In upcoming scenes, she is set to learn that she is in need of another transplant, and soon the race is on to find a donor.

Despite being touched when both Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) offer to be donors, Carla turns them down.

Determined to help his aunt, Bobby takes a trip to Highfield Prison, where he comes face-to-face with dad Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) to ask him to donate a kidney to his estranged sister.

Next week, when Ryan finds out what Bobby has been up to, he is quick to give him a dressing down, pointing out that Carla would never accept a kidney from Rob even if he agreed.

Despite Ryan’s warnings, Bobby makes out that he is going out with Max Turner (Paddy Bever), before instead heading to visit Rob once more.

This time, Rob announces that he has found religion and has decided to offer his kidney to Carla if he is a match.

However, their conversation is brought to a dramatic halt when Matty Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff) pulls out a knife and holds the visiting room hostage.

When DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) breaks the news to Carla that Bobby is involved in a hostage situation at the prison, the factory boss realises that he must be visiting Rob.

With her brother having been brought up in conversation, Carla has no choice but to tell Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) why Rob is in prison, revealing to the shocked teen that he is a murderer.

The next day, Carla makes it clear to Bobby that she believes Rob’s religion is all an act and that she’ll never be able to trust him.

However, Bobby is convinced that Rob is a changed man, and encourages her to visit him to see for herself.

At the prison, Carla is taken aback when Rob explains that finding God has changed him, and he wants to make amends and give her his kidney.

‘He loves his sister,’ actor Marc Baylis revealed. ‘Carla is the closest that he’s had with any of his relationships. It’s the longest relationship that he’s ever had.

‘He feels that Carla is the only person who would truly understand him, even above Tracy [Barlow (Kate Ford)], because of everything that they experienced together growing up.
‘So regardless of what behaviour Rob shows or what he expresses, deep down underneath everything is, is a lot of love.’

Later in the week, Carla discovers that if she were to accept Rob’s kidney, then she would have to go private due to the cost of keeping a prisoner in hospital.

When Ryan learns that it will cost roughly £100,000, he is completely stunned. How will they raise the cash?
