Coronation Street star lands Helen Worth’s ‘golden’ dressing room as colleague rejects it
Coronation Street legend Helen Worth bid farewell to the ITV soap on Christmas Day, when character Gail Platt left Weatherfield after a whopping 50 years.
As well as leaving a Gail-sized hole in viewers’ hearts, Helen also left her dressing room empty, meaning another cast member has had an upgrade.
Speaking about the change on the On The Sofa podcast, Craig Tinker star Colson Smith explained that there is somewhat of a hierarchy when it comes to being assigned a dressing room, with most stars sharing with at least one other cast member.
‘Getting your own dressing room at Corrie is a big, big deal. We’re talking 20 years of service minimum,’ he revealed.
According to David Platt actor Jack P Shepherd, Helen’s dressing room was located on what cast members refer to as the ‘walk of fame’, or the ‘golden corridor’.
‘It’s like a legends section, where you’ve got Bill Roach, Barbara (Knox), Helen (Worth), Dave Neilson, Sally Dynevor, Sue Nicholls, Mike Le Vell,’ he added.
Colson was quick to joke that while his dressing room is in the same corridor, it’s on ‘the wrong side of the road’!
‘I’m on the poor side of the road,’ he joked.
They went on to reveal that the cast member who inherited Helen’s prestigious dressing room was none other than Chesney Brown star Sam Aston, who has been in the ITV soap for 22 years.
However, he wasn’t the first star to be offered the room, as Jack confessed that it had also been offered to him.
He revealed that when he was approached by Corrie producers about the dressing room switch, he declined the offer, claiming that he’d just decorated his own dressing room.
There are set to be more dressing rooms up for grabs in the coming months as several Coronation Street stars have announced their upcoming exits – Colson among them.
Taking to social media earlier this week, Colson announced that he had found out last Autumn that his time as Craig Tinker was set to come to an end this year.
This comes after Metro revealed that Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) would be killed off after a long-running story.
