Two more Coronation Street exits ‘confirmed’ – and they are big ones
Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) resolved to say goodbye to the eponymous Coronation Street while Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) has been told that he’s facing a prison sentence for carrying a knife.
The two story developments occurred during Wednesday’s (January 8) edition of the ITV soap which dealt with the aftermath of Mason Radcliffe’s (Luca Toolan) death.
Mason, as fans know, was stabbed by brothers Matty and Logan during a scuffle at the precinct on Monday (January 6).
The Radcliffe siblings wanted revenge on Mason for handing over a helmet from their flat which implicated them in the death of DS Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) wife Becky.
Dylan grabbed a knife and pointed it at Matty and Logan, hoping to scare them off, but one of the brothers took the knife and Mason was subsequently stabbed during the fight.
Dylan was riddled with guilt and he confessed to dad Sean Tully (Anthony Cotton) on Wednesday to owning the knife that was used to kill Mason.
Sean encouraged him to go to the police but Dylan refused, begging Sean to come with him on the run instead. Sean agreed but he subsequently headed to the police station, with Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) arriving at the flat to arrest Dylan – on suspicion of murder!
Dylan was questioned at the station and, much like he suspected, his past with Mason was dredged up by dodgy detective Kit, who implied that he was the one to stab Mason.
Kit made it quite clear that, whether or not Matty and Logan were to blame, Dylan will likely face a jail sentence for carrying the knife in the first place.
Is he set to exit the Street?
That remains to be seen. But you know who is leaving the cobbles? Evelyn, who decided during the offering of the ITV soap in question that she needed to move out of Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) house if she’s going to have any chance of succeeding in her studies.
The matriarch has decided to read law at university and thus she is intent on moving into the halls of accommodation nearer the campus.
Maureen confirmed earlier this year that she is stepping back from the ITV soap to ‘have a bit of a life.
‘‘I’ll be absent for a while, and then coming back’, she told The Sun.
‘I’m not going to die but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life.
‘[Partner] David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.’
Fans of Coronation Street have been left concerned following a number of cast exits confirmed in the last month.
‘A lot of cast members are now on ‘guest contracts’ like Maureen Lipmanand Kate Ford,’ a source told The Sun.
Metro exclusively revealed last year that Sue Devaney will be bowing out of her Debbie Webster role as part of a dementia storyline, although she is expected to remain with the show for some time.
It was subsequently confirmed that Charlotte Jordan has quit the ITV soap as Daisy Midgeley. Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is also set to depart.
Colson Smith, meanwhile, confirmed that he was being written out as Craig Tinker after years and Luca Toolan’s Mason Radcliffe was killed off on screen earlier this week.
All exits come in the wake of Gail Platt, who left the cobbles after 50 years on Christmas Day.
