Devastating blow confirmed for Coronation Street’s Debbie ahead of tragic ending
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is dealt a blow in Coronation Street next week as the show kicks off what is set to be a huge year for the much-loved character.
In November, Metro exclusively revealed Debbie will be at the centre of a heartbreaking final storyline when she is diagnosed with dementia later this year.
Prior to her health storyline kicking off, there is trouble for Debbie’s relationship with Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), when someone makes a move on her man.
Forthcoming scenes Debbie and Ronnie have a public row at the restaurant, and it’s not long before a drunk Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) starts flirting with him.
She arrives at the Bistro and helps herself to a bottle of wine and spots Debbie and Ronnie rowing.
After Debbie storms out, Leanne invites herself to join Ronnie and orders another bottle from a disapproving Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).
She then drunkenly drapes herself over Ronnie and flirtily suggests they have some fun.
Later in the week, it looks like Debbie has reason to want revenge on Leanne, as when she spots her in the Street, she drives through a huge puddle, leaving her soaked to the skin and looking dreadful ahead of her court appearance.
Could Ronnie have really done the dirty on Debbie, or has she got the wrong end of the stick?
Debbie first appeared on the cobbles in 1984, though only lived at No. 11 Coronation Street for six months before her dad Bill (Peter Armitage) sold up and moved to Southampton with his new wife.
In the intervening years she was often mentioned, though wouldn’t return on-screen until 2019.
Fans were in uproar at the news Debbie is being written out, with some even setting up an official petition to save the beloved character.
It was later reported actress Sue Devaney was ‘blindsided’ by the news she would be leaving.
