Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winter’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell) life changed a great deal at the end of last year in Coronation Street when Les Battersby died.

Bruce Jones’ Corrie character died suddenly at work. In the aftermath, a comment from Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) sparked an investigation into the place Les worked.

Toyah (Georgia Taylor), Leanne (Jane Danson) and Chesney discovered the abattoir Les was working at when he died was willing to pay the trio a share of £50k – provided they signed an NDA.

During Les’ wake, Chesney was approached by a man who worked alongside Les, who insisted he owed it to the former resident to tell his family the truth.

As the man revealed that the company had previously cut corners when it came to health and safety, leading to several serious injuries in the past, he explained that he believed there was a cover-up going on.

Now Chesney has received his cheque of £20k, upcoming episodes will see him tell Gemma that he’s paid off the last of their bills. With a little bit of money left over, Chesney reveals to Gemma that they can book a week in Alicante.

That evening, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Bernie announce their engagement in the pub. Ches, Gemma, Summer (Harriet Bibby), Aadi (Adam Hussain) and Asha (Tanisha Gorey) are completely delighted for them.

Unfortunately, Gemma and Chesney’s positivity is destroyed when they return home and a police officer knocks on the door shortly after.

In the week, Chesney heads off to the police station to be interviewed, leaving Gemma anxious.

But what has happened?

Before 2024 ended, a stressed Chesney found himself in the middle of a feud with a mysterious man driving a van.

He took action at one point by pouring sugar into the van’s petrol tank – could this be why the police have arrived?

It won’t be long until Chesney and Gemma face more trouble in Weatherfield, when their new neighbours Mick and Lou step foot on the cobbles.

‘We’ve got some great characters coming in! They are Mick and Lou. They’re coming to live at the back of Chesney, on Maudsley Street, across the ginnell’, producer Kate Brooks previously teased.

‘They are livewires, they are ruffians, they are going to cause a lot of damage and a lot of chaos.

‘There is a link to Chesney initially, but they are coming to stir up a lot of trouble, and open up the floodgates and unpack the past of one of our big characters, which is Kit.

‘They are shaking things up. They’re neighbours from hell! I wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of them – especially Mick! They are coming to cause some chaos on the street, and they will leave a trail of devastation…
